Access Assistance in Carnegie

Being unable to get into your own property is disruptive, and it is usually one of a small number of causes: the key is lost or broken, the key is inside, or the mechanism itself has stopped operating.

The cause matters, because it changes what happens next. A lost key and a seized mechanism are two very different jobs.

What it involves

In practice

Every job is different, so this describes the shape of the work rather than a fixed procedure applied regardless of what we find.

  1. 01

    Establishing what has happened

What changed, whether the key turns at all, whether the handle moves, and whether the door has been forced. This is usually worked through on the phone before anyone is dispatched.

  2. 02

Confirming you are entitled to access

We ask for reasonable proof that you are the owner, occupier or an authorised person before opening any door. This protects everyone.

  3. 03

    Working on the lock itself

Where practical, the aim is to resolve the situation without damaging the door or the hardware.

  4. 04

    Sorting out what happens afterwards

If the hardware failed or the keys are unaccounted for, we will discuss whether replacement or rekeying is appropriate before leaving.
