Commercial Locksmith, Carnegie

Commercial doors get used far more heavily than residential ones, and the consequences of a lock failing are different. A shop entry that will not lock at close of trade, or an office door that will not open at the start of the day, is an operational problem before it is a hardware problem.

Commercial work also involves more people. Staff change, keys move around, contractors need access at particular times, and there is usually a landlord or managing agent with a view on what can be altered.

What it involves

In practice

Every job is different, so this describes the shape of the work rather than a fixed procedure applied regardless of what we find.

  1. 01

Understanding who needs access to what

Front of house, back of house, storage, amenities and after-hours access are often different problems. Mapping them out first avoids fitting hardware that is wrong for the traffic.

  2. 02

    Hardware suited to commercial use

Glass shopfronts, aluminium frames, roller shutters and heavy timber doors each require different hardware to the domestic equivalents.

  3. 03

    Keying arrangements

Where the hardware supports it, keying can be arranged so that different people carry different levels of access rather than everyone carrying everything.

  4. 04

    Working around trading hours

We will discuss timing so the work causes as little disruption to trade or occupancy as is practical.

Worth knowing

Before you arrange anything

Check your lease first

Commercial leases frequently specify what a tenant may change and what must be reinstated at the end of the term. Confirming this before work is arranged saves problems later.

We do not advise on compliance

Fire egress, disability access and building code obligations are matters for your building surveyor, architect or the relevant authority. We fit hardware; we do not certify compliance.
